Report: Tottenham remain keen on player who is valued at around £85m

According to a report in Bild (06/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham remain keen on snapping up Josko Gvardiol next summer despite RB Leipzig putting a mammoth price tag on the centre-back’s head.

It seemed like Tottenham’s hopes of snapping up Gvardiol had evaporated on the back of his impressive displays at the World Cup, which allegedly piqued the interest of Europe’s big hitters.

Alfredo Pedulla revealed last month that Real Madrid and Manchester City were both eyeing the Leipzig star, with the journalist stating that Pep Guardiola’s men were willing to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for the 20-year-old’s services.

However, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas insisted last week on the Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel that the Croat remains on Tottenham’s radar and suggested that the North London club could reignite their interest in the defender next summer.

Bild have now reported something similar, stating that Tottenham ‘want’ Gvardiol next summer and are battling Chelsea for the centre-back’s signature.

The German outlet reveals that Leipzig want a whopping €80-€100m (£70.2m-£87.8m) for the Croat in the summer and suggests that Antonio Conte’s men could potentially raise such a fee by cashing in on Harry Kane.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Spurs shelling out £85m on one player as that simply is not part of the club’s business model. I expect the North London club to pull out all stops to sign Alessandro Bastoni next summer, given that the Inter star will probably cost half of what Gvardiol would.
