Report: Tottenham said to be ‘furious’ with media leaks around Luis Diaz deal

Tottenham are said to be ‘furious’ with leaks to the media about the club’s interest in signing Porto winger Luis Diaz, according to Football.London.

Spurs have been in talks with the Portuguese side over the last few days to sign the Colombia international (Sky Sports), who has been been in electric form so far this season.

Antonio Conte’s side was said to have had a bid worth €45 million (£37.6m) bid turned down by Porto on Tuesday, who responded by telling Spurs to up the bid if they wanted to land the 25-year-old (The Guardian).

However, Spurs have since been leapfrogged in the race for Diaz with Liverpool emerging as the leading candidates to secure the forward’s signature, bringing their planned summer pursuit forward (The Athletic).

The developments have reportedly angered Spurs, who Football.London claim are unhappy with the way their interest in Diaz has been spread by the media in Portugal.

It is explained Spurs wanted the pursuit kept on the down-low to avoid a more powerful club potentially pushing the club aside in negotiations, as has seemingly happened in this situation.

The failure to land Diaz means Spurs have yet to make a single signing with Monday’s transfer deadline fast approaching, after also falling behind in the race for Wolves’ Adama Traore on Thursday (Fabrizio Romano).

Spurs Web Opinion

The last couple of days have been pretty disastrous for Spurs and it has been coming really. Doing business this late in the window is a big risk if the club doesn’t land its targets, and Spurs have lost out on two big ones here. There is time remaining, but not much and given how the last moments have gone, there can’t be too much hope left.
