Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham academy goalkeeper Sam Archer has been loaned out to non-league side Barton Rovers until the end of the season.
A number of Spurs youngsters are currently out on loan getting some valuable game time, with Ashley Devine and Ashely Phillips at Plymouth Argyle, Alejo Veliz at Sevilla, Troy Parrott at Excelsior Rotterdam, Matthew Craig at Doncaster Rovers and Josh Keeley at Barnet.
Sam Archer joins Barton Rovers on loan
Another academy youngster has now joined the list, with Archer moving to Barton Rovers in Southern League Central Division One until the end of the campaign.
Gold explained that Tottenham wanted the 17-year-old to get some short-term work experience and a taste of senior football.
Following his move, the teenager made his debut away at Thame United on Saturday and the youngster did not have the best of starts as he earned a yellow card and conceded a penalty seven minutes before half-time.
However, Rovers came from behind to score three in the second half and register a 3-1 win, with Archer thus making a winning start to his spell at Bedfordshire.
Spurs Web Opinion
More than outfield players, it is particularly important for goalkeepers to be exposed to competitive football as it is impossible to recreate the same pressure during training. It is thus not surprising that Spurs have decided to loan both Archer and Keeley to non-league sides.
