Report: Tottenham sent scouts to watch 25-year-old in action on Monday

According to Danish publication Ekstra Bladet (as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur ran the rule over Christian Eriksen as well as his Denmark teammate Joakim Maehle during the Danes’ 2-1 win over Austria on Monday.

Spurs, Brentford, Manchester United and Everton have all been credited with an interest in signing Eriksen as a free agent this summer (Mirror).

However, Danish TV2 football editor-in-chief Carsten Werge has predicted that the race for Eriksen is between the Lilywhites and the Bees, with the 30-year-old alleged to be well settled in London (Sky Sports).

Paul O Keefe revealed on social media that scouts from nine clubs including Spurs were in attendance to watch Denmark in action against Austria in Vienna yesterday.

It was assumed that the clubs in question were in attendance to take a closer look at Eriksen.

However, Ekstra Bladet have now revealed that Spurs not only took a closer look at the attacking midfielder but also Atalanta full-back Maehle, who is on the North London club’s radar.

The versatile full-back, who can play on either flank as well as further forward, struggled for regular game time at Bergamo during the 2021/22 campaign (Transfermarkt).

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg found the back of the net in the 2-1 win for the Danes as Eriksen played all 90 minutes while the Atalanta man got 66 minutes under his belt.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Ekstra Bladet are only making the connection with Maehle since Spurs have linked with the 25-year-old in the past. The Danish full-back does not appear to be at the top of the North London club’s wishlist for this summer, with Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence seemingly being Conte’s top target for right wing-back.
