Report: Tottenham sent scouts to watch PL star in action on Tuesday

The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to Goodison Park on Tuesday to watch Anthony Gordon but their trip proved fruitless as the winger did not play any part in the game.

Reports emerged a couple of weeks ago that Gordon is set to sign a new contract with Everton (The Telegraph) but that has not materialised so far and the speculation linking the winger with a move to Spurs has not dissipated.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas was the latest to report on the North London club’s pursuit of the 21-year-old, revealing on The Last Word On Spurs YouTube Channel earlier this week that the Toffees star is a player Tottenham ‘really like’.

The journalist added that Gordon is one of Fabio Paratici’s ‘favourite players in the Premier League’ but explained that the only stumbling block is Everton’s high asking price.

The Mail have now revealed that Antonio Conte’s men are intent on adding attacking reinforcements to their squad this month, with the Everton star said to be one of the names on the club’s wishlist.

It is explained that the Lilywhites sent representatives to study Gordon closely in the Toffees’ clash against Brighton on Tuesday but the youngster missed the game due to illness, with the Seagulls thrashing the home side 4-1.

Gordon will prove expensive but he will also potentially solve two issues in one as he can be used as part of the front three and also possesses the attributes to be converted into a right wing-back.

So rather than spending £40m on Porro, it would make sense for Spurs to pay the £50m odd it would take to sign the Everton star, particularly if the club decide not to loan out Bryan Gil.
