Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a midfielder under the age of 24 during the current transfer window.
The report says that while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s move to Juventus has currently hit a hiccup, the Dane has been given the green light to leave, with Ange Posteoclgou wanting to replace the 28-year-old with a young midfielder.
The outlet points out that just like Tottenham’s capture of the likes of Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson over the last couple of windows, the club are keen to ensure that the midfielder they bring through the door is at the early stages of his career.
Tottenham want young legs in the midfield
It is alleged that Spurs are looking for a number eight who is under 24 years of age, with the publication naming Blackburn Rovers starlet Adam Wharton as someone who has caught the club’s eye.
Spurs have been linked with several young English midfielders over the last couple of weeks, with Conor Gallagher’s name appearing quite persistently (Football Transfers).
Meanwhile, reports over the last 48 hours have suggested that Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-While and Leeds United youngster Archie Gray are also on the Lilywhites’ radar (Daily Mail).

Spurs have gone for a more experienced option upfront in the form of Werner. So, it stands to reason that the club are prioritising signing a younger player with a higher ceiling and resale value for the number eight role.
