Report: Tottenham set sights on 20-year-old centre-back

CalcioMercato claim that Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the race for Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile ahead of the January transfer window.

Badiashile has come on leaps and bounds since breaking into Monaco first team as a teenager back in 2018.

The young central defender took a huge leap forward last season, establishing himself as a regular in the Ligue 1 club’s backline and winning several admirers.

The French Under-21 international has started the new campaign from where he left off, putting in several solid displays for Niko Kovac’s side.

Badiashile has seemingly been on Tottenham’s radar for quite a while, the club alleged to have enquired about the defender back in the summer of 2019.

Reports again emerged in the summer of 2020 suggesting that the North Londoners could move for the Monaco man.

If CalcioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, the Lilywhites are now once again on the 21-year-old’s trail after the arrival of Antonio Conte.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would rather see Spurs go for up and coming talent like Badiashile, who has a high ceiling, rather than a safe but unspectacular signing like De Vrij.

While Conte is someone who prefers signing finishing products in order to deliver instant success, Paratici should not lose sight of the fact that we are still in the middle of a rebuild.

So, it will be quite interesting to see the profile of targets we go for over the next couple of transfer windows.
