Report: Tottenham set sights on Championship teenage starlet

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Peterborough United starlet Ronnie Edwards.

Edwards, who came through the ranks in Barnett’s academy, joined Peterborough last summer and won his first senior cap for the club back in December.

The centre-back, who turned 18 in March, has made two appearances for the Championship new boys this season, impressing in both outings.

Football Insider claim that scouts from Tottenham were in attendance at the Peterborough Under-23s clash against Watford last week to watch Edwards in action.

It is asserted that the North London club are compiling a dossier on the young centre-back with a view to a potential transfer.

However, the report goes on to suggest that Tottenham could face competition for Edwards, with a number of top clubs across the country alleged to be tracking the young defender.

Edwards signed a new contract with Peterborough back in March that runs until the summer of 2025.

Tottenham showed last summer through their acquisition of Joe Rodon that they are willing to invest in talent from the football league.

While there has been a change in structure at the top with Paratici’s arrival, the Italian also demonstrated with the acquisition of Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr that he is more than happy to take punts on young talent.
