Report: Tottenham set to battle Liverpool for £20m Portuguese defender

The Sunday Mirror (01/05, p73) have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur look set to battle Liverpool for Braga centre-back David Carmo this summer.

It was previously reported that Tottenham are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies in this summer’s transfer window (The Athletic).

According to The Mirror, Carmo is one of the names on Spurs’ wishlist for the role.

The 22-year-old is by no means a regular in Braga’s starting eleven but he has shown plenty of promise when opportunities have come his way over the last couple of seasons.

It is explained that Liverpool have scouted the centre-back on at least seven different occasions this season and were plotting an offer for him.

However, Tottenham are now allegedly ready to push the Reds for the Braga youngster’s services while Borrusia Dortmund are also said to be interested in the defender.

The Mirror add that Carmo is valued at around £20m ahead of the summer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I, like most Spurs fans, have not watched much of Carmo. His name is certainly not as exciting as the likes of Bastoni, Torres or Botman but the fact that Liverpool and Dortmund (two clubs who generally recruit excellently) are credited with an interest, suggests that the 22-year-old could be a hidden gem.
