Report: Tottenham set to hold new contract talks with first-team star

90 min have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to offer Eric Dier a new contract soon.

Dier has been a fixture in the heart of Tottenham’s back three since Antonio Conte arrived at the club and the centre-back was one of the Lilywhites’ most consistent performers last season.

However, much like the rest of the Spurs backline, with the 29-year-old has failed to maintain the same standard of performances this campaign and has been guilty of making several unforced errors at the back.

Conte and his coaching staff have continued to keep faith in the England international, who remains the undisputed first choice in the central sweeper role.

The club’s decision to not prioritise strengthening in central defence during last month’s transfer window was a vote of confidence to the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Dier’s current contract with Tottenham has 16 months left to run (Transfemarkt), and 90 min have now revealed that the defender might soon be in line for an extension.

The publication states that Spurs are now planning to start talks with the centre-back’s representatives on a new deal soon.

Spurs Web Opinion

This news might not go down with a section of Tottenham fans who seem convinced that Dier is not good enough for us.

There is no doubt that the 29-year-old has not been up to the required standard over the last couple of months but he was outstanding for the 12 months before that and it is clear that Conte trusts him a lot.
