Report: Tottenham set to lose out to Man United for 22-year-old forward

Tottenham look set to miss out on Ajax winger Antony, with The Sun reporting that Manchester United are closing in on the Brazilian.

Antony has been a revelation since swapping Sao Paulo for Amsterdam in 2020, with the wide-man ending the 2021/22 campaign with 12 goals and 10 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The Independent claimed last week that Spurs were set to rival Man Utd for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer. The report claimed that Antonio Conte’s men were willing to use Steven Bergwijn as a makeweight to sign the winger.

However, if The Sun’s latest update is to be believed, Antony looks set to reunite with Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford. The report claims that the Ajax star looks set to be United’s first signing of the summer, with the Red Devils set to pay £40m for the player.

The Sun add that Ten Hag also wants to raid his former club for centre-back Jurrien Timber, although a deal for the 21-year-old is looking less likely. Timber has also been previously been linked with a move to Tottenham (Todofichajes).

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Spurs were ever serious with their interest in Antony. However, the fact that we have been linked with the Ajax star along with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Raphinha this summer, suggests that Conte wants to add another winger to his squad this summer to replace Steven Bergwijn.
