Report: Tottenham set to make ‘strong proposal’ for Premier League defender

Tottenham are planning to make an offer for Antonio Rudiger with the Chelsea defender approaching the end of his contract at the club, according to Eurosport.

The Germany international has entered the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge and will have six months remaining in January, meaning he can begin talking to foreign clubs over a potential move when the transfer window opens.

As such, his situation means Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is at risk of losing a key piece of his side which currently sit second in the Premier League.

Eurosport claim Tuchel is keen for Rudiger to stay at Chelsea, but sources close the defender believe he has his mind set on leaving the Blues as options continue to pop up around him.

The report claims Tottenham, who have held an interest in Rudiger in the past, are planning to make a ‘strong proposal’ to make the switch to North London.

Antonio Conte is in the process of moulding the Spurs squad into his own ahead of the January transfer window, and it is thought that he will look to draft in a new centre-back to slot into his three-man defence.

Spurs Web Opinion

Rudiger has been one of Chelsea’s best and most consistent defenders over the last couple of seasons and they will be missing a big player if they lose him. Spurs and Chelsea haven’t got much of a history in terms of player transfers, but he would fit so well into Conte’s defence if a move was to be completed.
