Report: Tottenham set to offer bumper new contract to Antonio Conte

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to offer a contract worth more than £20million-a-year to Antonio Conte.

Conte’s current deal at Tottenham runs out at the end of the season, but the Italian insisted last month that he is in no rush to extend his deal and that he does not need a new contract in order to be committed to the club (Football.London).

However, if Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are now intent on tying down the 53-year-old and plan on offering him a new deal worth more than in excess of £20m – equivalent to around £ 400,000 a week.

Such a deal would make Conte the best-paid manager in the Premier League, ahead of both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

The report asserts that the Tottenham hierarchy are now ‘increasingly confident’ of securing an agreement with their head coach.

Football Insider add that Spurs are not put off by the criticism Conte has attracted from some quarters over his style of play, and that the club want a contract formalised before the January transfer window.

Offering such a deal to Conte would be a statement of intent from Tottenham and confirmation that they have fully bought into his vision for the club. I doubt the Italian would sign it unless he feels confident that the club will continue to back him over the coming years.
