Report: Tottenham set to rival West Ham for right-back

According to the Mail Online, Tottenham are tracking Sassuolo right-back Mert Muldur in an attempt to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season.

The 22-year old has made 10 international appearances for Turkey, including two in the Euro 2020 group stages. The right-back also played 28 times for Sassuolo last season in the Serie A (Transfermarkt).

London rivals West Ham United, who qualified for the Europa League following the last campaign, are also reportedly very interested in signing the defender.

Fabio Paratici, recently appointed managing director of football at Spurs, is understood to be a massive admirer of the 22-year-old and wants to make him his first signing since moving to North London.

The defender is very versatile – for Rapid Vienna, the club he played for before signing for Sassuolo, he featured 11 times as a centre-back, although his main position is at right-back, featuring in that position 69 times throughout his career.

The Turkish international has also even featured nine times as a right-midfielder for Sassuolo (Transfermarkt).

SpursWeb Opinion

Muldur is a signing that makes sense. He is young, versatile and appears ready for the next step in his career.

Despite Turkey failing to impress in Euro 2020, they still have a great crop of talent who are ready to take on the Premier League. He could potentially suit Nuno’s potential three at the back system with his versatility.

This would be a good signing, especially if we beat rivals like West Ham to his signature.
