Report: Tottenham shifted attention to Danjuma after failing to sign 28-year-old

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham explored a deal for Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu before turning their attention to Arnaut Danjuma.

Reports indicated on Tuesday hat Spurs hijacked Everton’s move for Danjuma, with the North London club swooping for the Villarreal player even after he had completed a medical at Goodison Park (The Athletic).

According to Fabrizio Romano, Antonio Conte’s men are expected to complete the paperwork to sign the Dutch international on loan today, with the Toffees said to be ‘furious’ at missing out on the 25-year-old.

TWM have now also stated that Spurs are ‘finalising’ a loan deal for Danjuma but they claim that the player was not the Premier League club’s first choice. The report suggests that Tottenham explored a deal to sign Deulofeu from Udinese over recent days but could not strike an agreement with the Serie A club.

Spurs wanted to sign the former Watford man on loan while Udinese preferred a permanent sale, which is why the Lilywhites turned their attention to Danjuma instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that Tottenham feared losing out on Nicolo Zaniolo after Milan entered the race for the player over recent days, which is why they scrambled for alternatives. From the sounds of it, Danjuma’s name was a fair way down the club’s wishlist and the Villarreal man is nothing more than a temporary stopgap.
