Inter’s interest in Emerson first came to light on Friday when CalcioMercato.it reported that the Nerazzurri are battling Atletico Madrid for the Tottenham man’s signature.
The report explained that Antonio Conte had ‘vetoed’ the sale of the Brazilian until Tottenham themselves sign another right wing-back in January.
Inter’s interest in Emerson has now been backed up by Corriere, who explain that Simone Inzaghi’s men need to raise funds through player sales in January to balance their books.
The Italian side have thus allegedly decided to cash in on Denzel Dumfries, who they value at around €40m (£34.4m), and replace the Dutchman with Emerson.
The report explains that Inter first explored a move for the right-back back in 2021 but it was Tottenham who ended up signing him that summer.
Corriere assert that Emerson’s name has now ‘popped up again’ and the Serie A club hope to sign the Brazilian on loan with an option to buy.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think Tottenham will be against loaning Emerson to Inter if the North London club sign a right wing-back in January.
Even if the Serie A club do not activate the option to buy the Brazilian permanently, the right-back’s market value will remain relatively high ahead of next summer if he gets regular game time at the San Siro during the second half of the campaign.
