Report: Tottenham star is learning French so he can speak to his teammates

According to GQ magazine, Brennan Johnson is now trying to learn French in order to communicate with some of his Tottenham teammates.

Johnson had come in for quite a bit of stick at the start of his Tottenham career, with the winger initially struggling to deliver the standard of performances that his £47.5m price tag demands.

However, over the past few months, there are clear signs that the Welshman is starting to settle into his new surroundings and he has showcased some of the attributes that convinced the Lilywhites to pay such a big fee for him last summer.

The 22-year-old is now regularly contributing with both goals and assists, both as a starter and a substitute, having now registered 10 goal contributions in 25 league appearances (Transfermarkt).

The former Nottingham Forest man is evidently also an extremely popular member of the Spurs changing room, with Alasdair Gold revealing recently on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast both Ange Postecolgou and Son Heung-min ‘adore’ the attacker.

Brennan Johnson is learning French at Spurs

One potential reason behind his popularity among teammates has now come to light, with the Wales international reportedly learning French in order to communicate with some of his teammates.

Sam Diss wrote for GQ magazine: “I ask Johnson how he finds distraction amid the noise.” Johnson replied: “Languages. “It’s so repetitive. Like, yeah — match the words to the gaps in the sentence. I know that. I know how to do a puzzle, but I’m trying to learn a language here.

Diss then wrote: “He’s learning French to connect with friends in the south of the country and a few Spurs teammates.”

Perhaps Johnson is learning French to communicate with Pape Sarr, whose English is still not up to scratch. Spanish might be the best language to learn to communicate most effectively at Spurs, with there being a big Spanish-speaking clique at the club.
