Report: Tottenham star not interested in a summer move back to his old club

Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jan Vertonghen, has under six months left on his current contract in North London, putting his long-term future in real doubt.

The Belgian centre-back had been a mainstay in that Tottenham back line since arriving in 2012, but the 32-year-old is beginning to lose his place in the starting XI.

Vertonghen has now played eight seasons and 306 games for Spurs, scoring 11 goals in that time (Wikipedia).

He can now start talking to non-English clubs about a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

As such, the defender was linked with a return to Ajax earlier in the week (Ziggo Sport via Standard), a club he played 220 games for, scoring 28 goals. Vertonghen came through the youth ranks with the Dutch giants (Wikipedia).

It has now been claimed by De Telegraaf journalist, Valentijn Driessen, that Vertonghen does not want to move back to Ajax at the moment where he would have to compete with former Manchester United player Daley Blind at the back.
