Report: Tottenham star receives one-match ban

Tottenham Hotspur fly to Croatia next week to face Dinamo Zagreb in the second leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie.

The Lilywhites got off to a good start in the two-legged affair by defeating the Croatian league leaders 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, they will have to do without their midfield general, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for the away match next week (Telegraph – 9:45 pm).

The Danish midfielder replaced Tanguy Ndombele in the second half and was soon booked for a professional foul when preventing a breakaway.

This booking means that Hojbjerg will be banned for the next European match due to an accumulation of yellows this season.

Coming into the game, Hojbjerg, Dele Alli and Matt Doherty were all at risk of missing the next match as they had picked up two yellows in the competition so far this season. A third, as it did with Hojbjerg, would result in a one-match ban (Football London).

The yellow card system does not reset until the quarter-finals of the competition.
