Report: Tottenham still in talks with club over defender ahead of pre-season tour

Tottenham remain in talks to sign Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence, however, it is doubtful that a deal will be reached in time for when the squad fly out to South Korea tomorrow evening, according to the Evening Standard.

The report claims Spurs are continuing to negotiate the ‘finer details’ with Boro for 21-year-old Spence, who produced a stellar campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

Antonio Conte was said to be keen for a switch to be completed before the club made the trip to Asia ( Evening Standard.)

The fresh update comes after the Telegraph recently reported a £15 million transfer fee rising to £20m had been agreed by both clubs on Wednesday.

However, the claim was later refuted by Football.London, who stated the move was not close to materialising with the fee still proving to be a stumbling block.

Spence emerged as a standout star in the Championship last term, making 46 appearances for Forest (Transfermarkt) as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Tottenham’s chase for Spence has rumbled on throughout the summer and it looks like it will keep dragging on over the coming weeks.

With the team jetting off for pre-season this weekend, it is starting to look increasingly unlikely that this deal will be wrapped up before then.
