Report: Tottenham suffer new first-team COVID case and U23 outbreak

In what comes as a blow to Tottenham, The Telegraph reveal the club have been hit by a fresh positive COVID case among their first-team squad.

The first-team section of Tottenham’s training ground was shut down last week and the club’s matches against Rennes and Brighton were called off following an outbreak of the virus.

It was reported over the weekend that if the results of an additional round of tests conducted on Saturday were promising, the first-team players could return to Hotspur Way for training on Monday.

The Telegraph have now revealed that Antonio Conte was due to return to the training ground along with 13 first-team players today but the club’s plan has now been thrown into chaos.

This is because there is thought to be another positive test among the first-team squad as well as a significant outbreak among the club’s Under-23s.

While it is unclear what the total number of positive cases at the club is at the moment, the report reveals that several members of Conte’s coaching staff continue to remain in isolation.

This is not good news and potentially puts our clash against Leicester on Thursday at huge risk. Even if Spurs can field a team for the match, the preparation would not have been ideal for Conte, given that he will not be able to work with some of his players ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium.
