Report: Tottenham takeover on the cards after European Super League debacle

Football Insider has revealed that a Tottenham takeover or partial buy-out is now on the cards since Joe Lewis is likely to come under pressure to sell the club after the European Super League debacle.

Tottenham were one of the six clubs from the Premier League to sign up for the breakaway tournament but the club decided to pull out of the competition on Tuesday night after coming under heavy criticism.

Football Insider claim that the owners are under increasing pressure to sell after dragging the club’s name and history through the mud with the ESL announcement.

The report reveals that Lewis’ investment firm ENIC were already looking at prospective buyers and were even in negotiations with a potential 50 per cent buyer last year but the deal collapsed since Daniel Levy did not want to concede control of the football club.

The report claims that the Spurs chairman now faces a huge fight to keep his job after throwing his weight behind the ESL while Lewis considers selling the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It has been known for a long time now that ENIC are ready to sell Tottenham if they receive the right offer. I would be surprised if the European Super League debacle had any influence on their eventual decision. I do not expect ENIC to sell the club unless they receive what they deem to be a suitable offer and that is not likely to arrive under the current global economic landscape.
