Report: Tottenham target hinted his future is at current club

Tottenham Hotspur may be on the hunt for a new central midfielder this summer, after failing to purchase a single player this season.

In fact, Spurs became the first Premier League club ever not to sign a new face in the summer transfer window, a record they later extended to the entire season.

Despite not signing anyone, Tottenham still sold Mousa Dembele to a Chinese club, as the midfield man simply wasn’t up to the intensity of Premier League life anymore.

This has left Pochettino one man down in central midfield, and a considerable figure at that, with Dembele being the linchpin in that area ever since Poch arrived at the club.

One man who Spurs have been linked with in the past is Declan Rice, West Ham’s young centre mid/defender.

However, if we look back at Rice’s comments after signing his new West Ham contract this season, he seems adamant that he future lies at his current club.

He said (West Ham website): “I’m absolutely delighted to have got the contract done, signed and to commit my future to the Club until 2024. I’m absolutely ecstatic.

“Without a doubt, the plan was always to stay at West Ham. I’ve had the support from the fans, from the players and from the manager and now, to get it done and commit myself to this Club is a very special moment and I’m over the moon.

“I’ve now played 50 games for the first team and I’m progressing week-in, week-out, learning from a top manager and top players. I’m still young, so to put more years on my contract and keep developing here is the best thing for me to do now.

“With the support of the manager, the players, everyone, it was the right thing to do.”
