According to a report from Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Tottenham Hotspur are in no mood to sell Steven Bergwijn on the cheap amid Ajax’s interest in signing the winger.
Bergwijn showed plenty of promise in his first couple of months at Tottenham after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January last year.
However, the winger was not able to build on that promise in his first full season at the club, as he struggled for a regular run in the side and found the back of the net just once last campaign.
The 23-year-old would be hoping for a fresh start under Nuno Espirito Santo but if De Telegraaf are to believed, the Netherlands international could be on his way out of Spurs.
The report claims Ajax have expressed interest in taking Bergwijn back to the Eredivisie.
However, it is explained Tottenham have told the Dutch club they want at least €25m (£21.3m) for the winger.
Bergwijn is said to be aware of Ajax’s interest and open to the move but the report adds that the Amsterdam giants might not be able to afford Spurs’ asking price.

The fact that Spurs are not willing to cut their losses on Berwijn suggests that the club believe there is still a lot more to come from him. I would certainly like to see the winger being given another season.
Even if it turns out that he is not quite good enough for the level we need to get to, the 23-year-old is certainly a better player than he showed last season. So we could still get decent money for him in 12 months time.
