Report: Tottenham tipped to resurrect deal for 25-year-old in January

According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham could go back in for Bruno Fernandes in January should Christian Eriksen leave the club.

Eriksen revealed his intention to seek a new challenge away from North London at the end of last season (Ekstra Bladet) but despite being heavily linked with a move away from the club, an exit failed to materialise before the summer transfer window closed.

The 27-year-old’s contract with the club expired at the end of the season and there is no indication yet that he is going to sign an extension.

Tottenham might have to try to sell the Danish international in January if they do not want to risk losing him for free next summer.

Spurs did bid for Fernandes last summer but failed to meet Sporting’s valuation and the midfielder was reportedly disappointed to see the move falling through (O Jogo via Sport Witness).

The 25-year-old has made an impressive start to the season having bagged seven goals and provided five assists from ten games in all competitions [transfermarkt].

Spurs Web Opinion

It looks inevitable that Tottenham will end up losing Christian Eriksen in January and so Fernandes will certainly be a great addition to the squad. Despite the summer spending spree, it is clear that Tottenham’s squad is in need of more fresh blood and hopefully Levy will once again loosen his purse strings in January.
