Report: Tottenham to back Conte in January after discussing potential targets

Tottenham are set to back Antonio Conte in January after the Italian met with chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Fabio Paratici to discuss potential targets, according to the Evening Standard.

The 52-year-old has undergone a positive start to life at Spurs and is slowly steadying what was a rocking ship before his appointment.

However, a handful of Covid-related postponements threatened to derail what was a good run of Premier League form, forcing potential congestion down the line.

While fixtures will be a topic of concern for Conte, his attention will now likely turn in the direction of the January transfer window as an opportunity to put his squad in the best position for the final run of the campaign.

As such, the Evening Standard report he met with chiefs Levy and Paratici to discuss possible incomings, claiming Spurs are ready to financially back him in the winter.

Spurs have allegedly placed Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic towards the top of their shortlist, with the 21-year-old striker likely to leave the Serie A side after rejecting a new deal.

A move is said to need to cost upwards of £80 million considering his current deal with La Viola expires in the summer of 2023.

Meanwhile, Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne has been tipped as another forward option to come in, while Nikola Milenkovic and Stefan de Vrij have allegedly been listed as potential signings at the back.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs have to trust Conte and listen to what he wants and needs for this tenure to be a success. January is always a tough time to buy players with club’s usually unwilling to sell, but it is also the time for clubs to strengthen and give themselves a good chance of finishing the campaign well.
