Report: Tottenham to return with improved offer for defensive target

According to the print edition of Spanish publication AS (as relayed by The Daily Express), Tottenham are set to return with an improved offer for Granada’s Domingos Duarte after having their opening offer rejected.

Alasdair Gold revealed earlier this month that Tottenham would have to sell one of their central defenders before bringing in another one.

However, it emerged last week that Nuno Espirito Santo had urged the club to snap up Duarte, who has enjoyed two solid seasons in the heart of the Granada defence since moving to the Andalusian club in 2019.

It looked as though Spurs had suffered a blow in their pursuit of the Portuguese international when sources from Spain claimed a few days ago that the North London’s club opening €8m (£6.8m) offer for Duarte was turned down by Granada.

However, AS have now claimed that the Lilywhites are set to test the La Liga club’s resolve with an improved offer for the centre-back.

The report states that Tottenham are still hopeful they will be able to get a deal for Duarte over the line, with Granada willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old.

Even if Nuno wants to employ three at the back, he still has plenty of centre-back options to choose from in Dier, Sanchez, Romero, Rodon, Davies and Tanganga.

So, I cannot see us signing another central defender unless we manage to sell Sanchez or loan out Rodon before the window closes.
