Report: Tottenham trio nominated for accolades at London Football Awards

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed on their official website that Harry Kane, Son Heung min and Asmita Ale have all been nominated in different categories for the 2023 London Football Awards.

Kane had an outstanding 2022 and even though he has been overshadowed by Erling Haaland this season, he is quietly having a brilliant campaign, having found the back of the net 18 times across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

The striker needs just one more goal to overtake Jimmy Greaves’ tally of 266 goals and become Spurs’ all-time top scorer.

He will be vying for the Premier League Player of the Year in the London Football Awards, with Arsenal duo, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, being the others shortlisted.

Meanwhile, Son’s second goal against Leicester City on 17 September is in contention for the Goal of the Season award, with the other nominees being Michael Olise (Crystal Palace v Manchester United), Ismaila Sarr (Watford v West Bromwich Albion), Paul Smyth (Leyton Orient v Doncaster Rovers) and Laura Wienroither (Arsenal v Manchester United).

Ale, who has had an impressive 2022 for Tottenham women, will be going up against Lauren James of Chelsea and Izzy Atkinson of West Ham for the Women’s Young Player of the Year award.

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of the five names shortlisted for the Player of the Year award, there is no doubt that Kane has been a cut above the rest.

However, given how well Arsenal are doing at the moment and the role recency bias plays in these sorts of awards, I would not be surprised if one of Saka or Odegaard ends up winning it.
