Report: Tottenham unlikely to submit bid for player today despite previous claim

Tottenham are unlikely to submit a bid for Djed Spence today with the club and Middlesbrough still at an impasse regarding the defender’s valuation, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas reported Spurs are in advanced talks with Boro and edging closer to signing Spence, 21, who helped Nottingham Forest achieve promotion to the Premier League during his loan last season.

It was also claimed a deal could see the England U21 international fetch the Championship club an initial £15 million fee with extra add-ons (Sky Sports)

Barclay revealed Middlesbrough were expecting a higher bid to come their way from Tottenham on Friday, but things have taken now another twist.

The journalist has come in with an updated stance, stating a bid is unlikely to be tabled for Spence today with both clubs still at a disparity in terms of their respective valuations.

Although he did not state when the offer would be submitted, he made sure to clarify that the deal as a whole is not in any doubt at present.

All the reports hint that Spurs are close to sealing a deal for Spence, but not quite over the line just yet. It also looks like there is a matter of a few million pounds that are preventing a move from materialising, so hopefully that will iron out quickly.
