Report: Tottenham ‘very interested’ in signing Ajax star – contract runs out in 2021

It was reported by the Daily Mail back in the summer that Donny Van de Beek was valued at around £45m, with Spurs said to be interested.

Dutch football expert, Marcel van der Kraan, then revealed that Van de Beek was keen on a move to either Tottenham or Man United in the window.

Nothing came of these rumours and Donny remained an Ajax player after such a successful season with the club, including a run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Van de Beek scored 17 and set up a further 13 in 57 games across all competitions last season (TransferMarkt).

FCInterNews have now offered an update, stating that Liverpool, Spurs, Real Madrid, Barca, and Inter Milan were all interested in the player last summer.

Ajax reportedly set his price tag at €80m, but Van de Beek’s contract expires in 2021, so could a summer move for him this time around prove to be cheaper?

Spurs and Man United are apparently still ‘very interested’ in the playmaker.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Van de Beek would be the perfect Christian Eriksen replacement. I was so impressed with him in the Champions League against Spurs and his numbers speak for themselves. If Levy can get him at a cut-price deal as his contract runs down, all the better.
