Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jan Vertonghen, has under six months left on his contract in North London, as he inches towards an exit.
Vertonghen is one of the club’s longest-serving current players, but his form has declined this season and the defender is now 32-years-old.
Jan will be allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer if a new deal is not agreed, and he can already talk to non-English clubs about a pre-contract agreement.
The question then falls to who could replace the Belgian everpresent in the Spurs defence from the past half-decade. One report claims that man could come from Sheffield United.
The Blades have been the surprise package in the Premier League this season, with a campaign built around a brick wall defence, including Jack O’Connell.
Tottenham are now said to be interested in signing the Sheffield defender in the near future, who is a left-footed player much like Vertonghen (Sunday People – 19/01/20 page 49).
