Report: Tottenham want to sign Championship winger as he fits Postecoglou’s style

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a new winger in the summer, and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene has emerged as a potential target after the former Aston Villa youngster has set the Championship alight this season.

Ange Postecoglou may have already added Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, and more recently, Timo Werner to his squad, but the Australian is seemingly still keen to expand his options out on the wing.

With Spurs hunting a top-four spot this season, and the prospect of Champions League football next season, it makes sense that Postecoglou wants the very best squad depth for the Lilywhites.

Clearly, Postecoglou has one eye on the future too, with the likes of Samuel Iling-Junior (Fichajes) and Antonio Nusa (The Athletic), both young, highly-rated wingers, linked with a move to North London.

Spurs want Jaden Philogene from Hull City

Now, a new name has emerged on Tottenham’s shortlist, and he’s one of the brightest talents in English football’s second tier right now – Jaden Philogene.

That’s according to TeamTalk, who suggest the Hull City man has caught the eye of Spurs, and a number of other top-flight teams, after registering eight goals and six assists in the Championship this season (Transfermarkt).

Signed from Aston Villa, Philogene could well return to the Midlands club if they were to bid £15m for him at any point as part of a buy-back clause. However, if a rival club were to go higher, Villa would have to match that in order to recapture the starlet.

It is thought Spurs have “made checks” on Philogene already and believe he “fits the profile” of what Postecoglou is looking for.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jaden Philogene has been outstanding for Hull this season and it’s no wonder clubs are looking at him. I would be surprised if he is the winger we go for, but you never know if the stars will align and other targets fall through, we may see him playing for Spurs.
