Report: Tottenham will allow 24-year-old to leave club this summer

Tottenham Hotspur will tell January signing Teddy Smith to find a new club this summer, according to a report in Football Insider.

The 24-year-old was handed a short-term contract on deadline day in January following his trial with the club last summer, during which time he featured in a pre-season game against Dulwich Hamlet.

Smith was signed by Spurs after young keeper Brandon Austin joined Danish side Viborg on loan for the rest of the season.

His arrival in January went under the radar amidst the higher-profile arrivals of Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn.

Football Insider now reveals that Tottenham will allow him to leave when his contract runs out in the summer.

It is claimed that the club only bought Smith in as a training ground keeper and had no intention on retaining him beyond his contract.

With Michel Vorm’s contract also running out this summer, that only leaves us with two senior keepers in the squad. We are guaranteed to sign a goalkeeper this summer but the question is whether we will be bringing someone who can compete with Hugo for the number one spot or another keeper who would be content as a backup.
