Report: Tottenham will have to pay ‘well in excess of £100m’ to sign target

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay an astronomical fee to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson.

Ferguson is seen by many as one of the best young centre-forwards in the world and the 19-year-old is now starting to fulfil some of his promise, having found the back of the net five times in the Premier League this season (Transfermarkt).

The teenager put to paper on a new contract last week, thus committing his future with the Seagulls until 2029 (Sky Sports).

Brighton’s valuation of Evan Ferguson is over £100m

If talkSPORT’s latest update is to be believed, Ferguson’s new deal does not contain any release clause, and interested clubs would thus have to pay ‘ well in excess of £100m’ to land the player.

The outlet says that Tottenham have identified the Republic of Ireland international as a potential long-term successor to Harry Kane.

However, the Lilywhites would have to break the British transfer record to sign Ferguson, with Brighton owner Tony Bloom said to believe that the striker is worth more than Moises Caicedo, who Chelsea signed for £115m in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any chance that Tottenham had of signing Ferguson is now over. The 19-year-old will likely fetch a British record transfer fee when he does leave the Amex Stadium and I expect him to end up at Chelsea next summer if the Blues do not sign a big-name centre-forward in January.
