Report: Tottenham will ‘make offer’ to defender next week

FC Inter News have offered a comprehensive update on where things stand in the negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan over a swap deal for Tanguy Ndombele and Milan Skriniar.

Rumours of a potential swap first emerged at the start of this month as it was revealed that Jose Mourinho was an admirer of Skriniar, while Antonio Conte viewed Tanguy Ndombele as the ideal option to strengthen the Inter midfield (Sky Sports Italia via Sempre Inter).

FC Inter News now reports that Conte is keen to sign the Spurs midfielder but any possible deal will depend on the former Chelsea boss staying put at the San Siro as he gets set for showdown talks with the club’s hierarchy.

The report claims that Mourinho wants to bring Skriniar to North London as Vertonghen’s replacement, with the Nerazzurri boss reportedly viewing the Slovak as dispensable.

It is revealed that Tottenham will make a contract offer to the centre-back next week and will try to persuade him to join the club.

It is also suggested that any offer will have to be higher than the €4million (£3.6m) per season that he currently makes at Inter.

If Tottenham can reach an agreement with Skriniar, then it is asserted that both clubs will hold talks over the value of each player, with both Inter and Spurs expected to rate their assets at least €50m (£45m) each.

I can why see Jose Mourinho would want to do the swap deal as Ndombele does not seem to be in his plans. Some Spurs fans are convinced that Hojbjerg’s arrival would help get the best out of Ndombele but I believe it will only make it harder for the Frenchman to get game time, as the Dane is more versatile than just a traditional midfield pivot.

While I can see Jose pushing for the proposed swap deal and Conte doing the same at Inter, I doubt both clubs would agree on the value of their respective players. Reports indicate that Levy wants to get back what Spurs paid for Ndombele last summer, and so it is fair to presume he would probably be pushing for £10-£15m plus Skriniar.
