Tottenham Hotspur had a number of impressive players during this pre-season, but few impressed more than academy youngster, Japhet Tanganga, senior players included.

The 20-year-old slotted into the central defence alongside Alderweireld and Vertonghen on different occasions, but not once did he look out of place.

In fact, if you asked a non-Spurs fan to pick out the best centre-back, judging by those pre-season games alone, few would have skipped over the youngster.

With Toby and Jan both in the final year of their respective contracts, Pochettino will need to start thinking about replacements, but he may not have to look too far for one of them.

Reports now indicate that Tottenham are working on a contract renewal for the defender this summer, although the length of the new deal is not mentioned (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Get this lad signed up to a five-year deal. I have more faith in him becoming a great defender than I do Juan Foyth or Davinson Sanchez, and that is no disrespect to either of them. Tanganga simply looked that good.
