Report: Tottenham would like to offer midfielder a new contract

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur would like to offer Oliver Skipp a new contract and see the midfielder commit his future to the club.

Skipp has hit the ground running after returning to North London over the summer following an impressive showing on loan at Norwich last campaign.

The spell at Carrow Road seems to have a big effect on the youngster’s confidence, with the 21-year-old establishing himself as a key part of Tottenham’s starting eleven under Nuno Espirit Santo.

The side certainly felt the Spurs academy graduate’s absence in the North London derby loss against Arsenal last week and he put in another solid display on Sunday on his return to the starting lineup against Aston Villa.

The Athletic claim that Tottenham believe they have ‘a gem’ on their hands and a player who could spend a large portion of his career at the club.

With Skipp’s current contract running out in June 2024, it is explained that Spurs are keen to extend it.

The report adds that the midfielder also sees his long-term future in North London and is now focussed on nailing down his place in the team.

I fully expect the club to offer Skipp a substantial pay raise and a long-term deal in the near future if he maintains his form. The 21-year-old seems to have a level head on his shoulders and from the outside, he appears to be a manager’s dream given his work ethic and attitude.
