Report: Tottenham’s Dane Scarlett continues to struggle for minutes out on loan

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dane Scarlett is having to make do with ‘limited time’ on the pitch for Ipswich Town as part of his loan spell right now.

Of all the young talent at Tottenham, Dane Scarlett is one of the most highly regarded and exciting academy stars to rise through the ranks.

The striker has been in and around the first-team squad over the last couple of years, and he even bagged his first senior goal during pre-season.

But, ultimately, the decision was made by Ange Postecoglou that a loan spell would be the best option for Scarlett this season.

The problem is, Scarlett has joined an Ipswich Town side who, after being promoted from League One, have taken the Championship by storm. The Tractor Boys are currently second in the league table, three points behind leaders Leicester City.

The success of the side has left Scarlett to pick up the scraps from the substitutes’ bench, and it was much of the same at the weekend.

Scarlett gets seven minutes for Ipswich

In his regular loans roundup for Football.London, Alasdair Gold touched on Scarlett’s latest cameo appearance.

Scarlett was introduced from the bench with seven minutes to go in a rare defeat for Ipswich, losing 2-0 away at West Brom.

Gold claims Scarlett will “take any opportunity handed out” as things stand, with the 19-year-old finding it difficult to make an impact.

Despite a “couple of late efforts at goal,” Scarlett was unable to change the match and never really got going.

He received a five out of ten rating from East Anglian Daily Times, with the outlet saying: “Had a chance from a header before firing a long-range effort wide of the post. Gave it a go in a limited time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Seven minutes of football is no time at all to get yourself into a game and make a meaningful difference. I really feel for Scarlett, as this was supposed to be a big year for him and it’s being wasted right now.
