Report: Tottenham’s early stage contract talks with star have been ‘positive’

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham’s talks with Eric Dier’s entourage over a new contract have started positively.

Dier is into his ninth season at Spurs, having joined from Sporting Lisbon in a £4m deal back in 2014 and the centre-back continues to be an important player for Antonio Conte.

The 29-year-old’s current contract with Tottenham runs out in June of 2024 and 90min were the first to report earlier this week that the North London club are set to begin talks over a new deal with the defender.

Football Insider have claimed that those negotiations have now begun between the parties, with the Lilywhites said to be keen on tying down Dier until 2026.

The publication adds that a salary rise is viewed by the Spurs hierarchy as a reward for his good performances since Conte arrived at the club.

It is revealed that Dier is ‘very happy’ at Tottenham and the early stages of the negotiations between the parties have been positive.

Spurs Web Opinion

This news will not go down well with some Spurs fans, who are convinced that Dier is not good enough for us.

However, Conte and his coaching staff, who watch him train every day, clearly feel differently and want to hang on to the 29-year-old, which is why a new deal is a no-brainer.
