Report: Tottenham’s PL rivals tried to hijack Richarlison deal at last minute

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea attempted to hijack Tottenham’s deal for Richarlison before a £60m deal was agreed this morning.

Tottenham have a full agreement with Everton and Richarlison, they are now just waiting for his medical and the player’s final signature.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed earlier today that an unnamed club had shown late interest in signing Richarlison, but Spurs look to have completed a deal.

This appears to line up with Romano’s report, with Tottenham’s fierce London rivals Chelsea revealed to have made a last-ditch effort to disrupt the deal.

David Ornstein also reported that Tottenham had a £40m bid rejected yesterday by Everton, only to quickly agree on £50m plus £10m in add-ons.

Tottenham stepped up their pursuit of the striker this week, with reports claiming Everton needed to raise funds before the FFP deadline (Mirror).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Chelsea certainly have a track record in hijacking Tottenham deals for Brazilian forwards – namely Willian. However, it appears this time Spurs have managed to get the transfer over the line before the Blues can interfere.
