Report: Tottenham’s potential Gareth Bale decision could cause problems for Real Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering not looking to extend Gareth Bale’s loan spell for a second season, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims that it was initially hoped that Bale would remain in North London until his contract at Real Madrid ends in 2022, however the Welshman is said to have not reached the heights expected by the club to date.

Bale returned to Tottenham in the summer in what was a media frenzy, with Spurs fans lined outside the club’s Hotspur Way training ground to welcome their former favourite son back to the club.

However, the 31-year-old has only made eleven appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season, scoring four goals (transfermarkt).

Mundo Deportivo claim that if Bale does return to the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of next season, it could hamper their transfer plans considering they will have to cover the full amount of his current salary.

Mourinho revealed at his press conference yesterday that Bale has returned to first team training following injury and could be in contention to face non-league Barrow tomorrow evening in the FA Cup third round (Football.London).
