Report: Tottenham’s talks over signing centre-back have ‘come to a standstill’

Sport have reported that talks between Spurs and Barcelona have ‘come to a standstill’ over a permanent deal for Clement Lenglet in the summer.

The French central defender has been used plentifully by Conte in North London this season, both on the left and in the centre of a back three.

However, Barcelona are apparently scared there is a ‘danger’ Lenglet will not complete a permanent move to N17 come the end of his loan.

The loan deal struck between the Premier League and La Liga side did not include a purchase option or obligation, but Barcelona were hoping to negotiate a sale as they do not want to keep Lenglet.
It is said that Conte had initially been planning on keeping Lenglet, but if the Italian leaves then the centre-back’s future could also be ‘up in the air’.
Barcelona were reportedly hoping to earn around £16m from Lenglet’s sale this summer but it appears Tottenham may not be the eventual buyer.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Tottenham should not be buying Lenglet permanently.
Ben Davies is contracted and can play many of the same positions as a second choice.
All spare funds should be directed into signing a world-class centre-back option to improve the starting XI.
