Football Transfers have revealed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Ko Itakura has been disrupted after the Borussia Monchengladbach star sustained an ankle injury.
Over recent weeks, several publications have reported that Spurs will prioritise signing a centre-back when the transfer window reopens in January (90 min).
GiveMeSport claimed on October 26 that Itakura is one of the names on Tottenham’s radar, with the Japanese international said to be popular among the North London club’s recruitment team.
Ange Postecoglou would be aware of the defender from his time in the J-League, with the Gladbach star having broken into Kawasaki Frontale’s first-team when the Spurs boss was in charge of Yokohama Marinos.
Itakura’s injury is a setback for Tottenham interest
Football Transfers have now shed more light on Tottenham’s interest in Itakura, claiming the centre-back has been on the Premier League club’s radar since his Schalke days.
The report explains that Spurs were planning to send scouts to Germany to take another look at the Gladbach star but their plan had to be scrapped after the defender picked up an ankle injury.

The outlet adds that Itakura is not expected to be back in action for ‘few more weeks’.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is still some time to go before January and I doubt if Tottenham would have narrowed in on their top centre-back targets yet, particularly since the recruitment structure at the club has been revamped recently.
