Report: Twist in Vlahovic transfer saga as new PL club make mammoth offer

Cacliomecato.it have revealed that Newcastle United have made a mammoth offer to sign rumoured Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic.

Vlahovic has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the last few months, with reports indicating that the Serbian international is Antonio Conte’s number one priority.

It was previously suggested that the Lilywhites were competing with the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester City for the 21-year-old.

Gazzetta Dello Sport claimed earlier this week that Fiorentina are unlikely to sell the striker in January unless they receive an offer of €100m(£85m) for the striker.

If Calciomercato’s latest update is to be believed, that is exactly the offer that Newcastle have now made for Vlahovic.

The report states that Rai journalist Filippo Grassia believes the Magpies are ready to meet Fiorentina’s £85m asking price after making a three-figure offer (in Euros).

Calcimercato.it go on to add that Vlahovic would prefer to join Juventus but the Old Lady would find the transfer ‘very complicated’ to pull off and Fiorentina would prefer to sell the striker to a foreign club.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Newcastle can blow the likes of Spurs and Juventus out of the water financially, I do not see why Vlahovic will want to move to St James’ Park, particularly given that the Magpies’ Premier League status is hanging in the balance.

Given the form the 21-year-old has shown over the last two years, he will rightly believe that he is ready to take a big step in his career.

A move to Newcastle will, at best, be a sideways move as it will take several years for the club to even compete for Champions League qualification.
