Report: Two 19-year-olds called up to first-team training by Tottenham

Tottenham academy youngsters Matthew Craig and Romaine Mundle were both spotted training with the first team at Hotspur Way ahead of the club’s trip to the South Coast.

Spurs have an opportunity to tighten their grip on a top-four spot and temporarily even leapfrog Manchester United into third place when they take on Southampton.

The Lilywhites are still without two key midfielders in Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma, who are expected to be out of action for the remainder of the campaign.

Oliver Skipp has really stepped up in the absence of the experienced pair while Pape Matar Sarr has also proven that he can be relied upon when opportunities have come his way.

Training pictures have now revealed that another young midfielder in the form of Matthew Craig was also called up to the first team by Antonio Conte this week.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back and a right-back, has started all of Tottenham’s 19 matches in Premier League 2 this season (Transfermarkt).

It was also confirmed that academy winger Romaine Mundle trained with the first team ahead of Saturday’s trip to the South Coast.

Mundle has scored four goals and provided four assists across all competitions for Spurs’ Under-21s this season (Transfermarkt).

Mundle and Craig were likely only called up to make up the numbers for the training exercise.

There is very little chance that either player is going to make Tottenham’s matchday squad for the clash against Southampton.
