Report: Two key Spurs players will be suspended when season resumes

Football. London have reported that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur will both miss key fixtures when the season resumes after the World Cup.

Both Hojbjerg and Bentancur were among Spurs’ most consistent performers in the first part of the season and were also two of the players who got the most minutes under their belt, alongside the likes of Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

However, Conte will have to manage without Hojbjerg for the first leg of Tottenham’s Champions League round of 16 clash against AC Milan in February.

This is because the Dane picked up his third yellow card of the Champions League campaign in added time of Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Marseille.

UEFA’s rules state that three yellow cards entail a suspension in the next game and the cards are not wiped out until the completion of the quarter-finals, which means that Hojbjerg will not be able to feature at the San Siro.

In addition, Bentancur is suspended for Tottenham’s boxing day fixture against Brentford after picking up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season in Spurs’ 4-3 win over Leeds United.

Spurs Web Opinion

In Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma, we have two players who are more than good enough to step in and cover for the absence of Hojbjerg and Bentancur in the aforementioned games.

I expect to see a lot more of Skipp during the second half of the campaign, now that he will be put through his paces during the World Cup break by Conte and his coaching staff.
