Report: Two PL clubs holding talks with centre-back Spurs allegedly want

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Piero Hincapie, Football Insider have revealed that Newcastle United and Everton are now both holding talks over a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The Daily Mirror claimed over the weekend Spurs want Hincapie in addition to Pedro Porro this transfer window, with the report adding that the North London club could loan the centre-back back to Leverkusen until the summer if they get a deal for him over the line.

Tottenham’s interest in the Ecuadorian was also backed up by The Sun, who stated a couple of days ago that Antonio Conte was keen on reinforcements for his backline and that the Italian was an admirer of the 21-year-old.

However, if Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Everton and Newcastle seem to have stolen a march on Spurs in the race for Hincapie.

The report states that the two Premier League clubs have sent representatives to London to discuss a transfer with the player’s representatives.

It is alleged that while Leverkusen are reluctant to sell Hincapie, the defender is keen on a switch to the Premier League. Football Insider add that the Bundesliga club want ‘well in excess of £25m’ for the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do hold a serious interest in Hincapie, one would expect the club to intervene if the centre-back is indeed in talks with Everton and Newcastle.

If Spurs decide not to push ahead with talks for the Leverkusen star, that would be an indication that the club is prioritising other players for the left centre-back role, potentially Alessandro Bastoni or Even Ndicka.
