According to a report from The Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino is the most wanted man in Manchester, with both United and City eyeing potential moves for the former Tottenham boss.

Pochettino has been without work for almost a year since he parted ways with Spurs, despite being linked with some high-profile jobs like Barcelona (Evening Standard) and Juventus (talkSPORT).

The Mirror reports that the Argentine may finally get his wish of a return to English football, with Man United and Man City earmarking him as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s and Pep Guardiola’s respective successors.

It is claimed that pressure has mounted on Solksjaer following the Red Devils’ poor start to the campaign. While United are set to be willing to give the Norwegian time to turn things around, they are also said to be aware of City’s interest in Pochettino.

The Man City hierarchy are reportedly becoming increasingly worried that Pep Guardiola has not signed a new contract, with the Spaniard having just seven months left on his deal at the Etihad Stadium.

It is claimed that they are big admirers of the former Spurs boss, who is their number one target to replace Guardiola next summer.

I have always felt that the Manchester United job is the one that Pochettino has his eye on. The project at Old Trafford of restoring the club to their former glory and giving them an identity, while working on a relatively low budget, is something that will suit him perfectly. I believe the Argentine would prefer the United job over the City one as I am not sure he will want to follow Guardiola at the Etihad.
