Report: Two Premier League sides ready to compete with Spurs for young forward

Tottenham Hotspur already sealed the signing of young midfielder Alfie Devine last week but he is not the only one of Wigan’s young talents the club are reportedly after.

It was previously reported that Spurs were trying to take advantage of the Latics going into administration by snapping up midfielder Joe Gelhardt (Daily Mail), while young forward, Sean McGurk, is also said to be a target for the Lilywhites.

However, it now appears as if Spurs may have some competition for McGurk’s signature as The Sun’s Alan Nixon has claimed that Brighton and Leeds United are both eyeing the forward.

The 18-year-old, like Devine, stood out in Wigan’s FA Youth Cup run last season and it appears Tottenham’s scouts have been sufficiently impressed.

Nixon claims, however, that Brighton have now entered the race for McGurk after snapping up his former teammate, Jensen Weir. He also reveals that Marcelo Bielsa’s side still hope to win the race for the talented forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

Signing young talents for our academy looks like it will be a key part of our summer strategy. I suspect many youngsters from across Europe could become available due to the financial hit the club have taken due to the pandemic. Clubs like Spurs will be looking to take advantage of the depressed market and land talented young players on the cheap.
