Tottenham Hotspur defensive pair Eric Dier and Clement Lenglet will be suspended for the second leg of the Champions League round of sixteen clash against AC Milan if either picks up a yellow card at the San Siro this evening.
Antonio Conte will be without four first-team players for either leg against Milan, with Hugo Lloris, Ryan Sessegnon, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur all out with long-term injuries.
In addition, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is suspended for this evening’s clash after picking up three yellow cards in the group stage of the competition which could not come at a worse time with the club experiencing a midfield injury crisis.
UEFA rules stipular that players who receive three yellows in the competition will miss the next game, with cards only being wiped out at the end of the quarter-final stage.
This means that if Dier or Lenglet, who were both cautioned twice in the group stages, pick up another yellow card in either leg against Milan or in the first leg of the quarterfinal (if Tottenham manage to progress), they will both have to sit out on the game.
Spurs Web Opinion
We cannot afford to lose any more first-team players to injuries and suspensions. So, the coaching staff would have likely spoken to Dier about doing his best to avoid getting a yellow card this evening. Lenglet will be less of a miss since we have a readymade alternative in Davies for the left centre-back role.
